Introducing the anniversary project of Burda magazine with famous Russian designers! Meet the best models of 1987, and we will tell you how to give hits of past years a truly up-to-date look.

The jacket from the cover of the first issue of Burda in Russia was remembered by everyone. And for Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Zaitsev, he marks the beginning of a new era, the opening of the "Iron Curtain" and, of course, acquaintance with an outstanding woman - Enne Burda.

In 1987, I was invited to Munich Fashion Week - it was an incredible event for me. I remember the first meeting with the press, questions raged endlessly: the German fashion journalists were interested to know who I was, a mysterious Russian fashion designer. I was young and temperamental, unusually inspired and talkative. Then we decided to take a walk around Munich. We walked along a very beautiful street, cafe windows shone around us, elegantly dressed ladies with perfectly laid hair sat inside. Next to them were men in fine suits. This made a strong impression on me, I could not take my eyes off. Such a contrast with the Soviet people!

How did your meeting with Enne Burda happen?

In the same place, in Germany, my exhibition was held. In line for her, I saw Enne Burda and Margaret Lay, the head of Escada.I was amazed that they calmly stood in line with everyone. Enne was a very attractive woman, slender, incredibly elegant. In addition, she left the impression of a smart woman. I could only dream of such a meeting.

What was the significance of the publication of the magazine Burda in Russian?

The magazine had a huge impact on Soviet women. All models in it were fashionable and practical. It’s great that Burda is still coming out, letting women keep track of new solutions. I myself regularly review the magazine: as a designer, I am interested. It is important that Burda still offers readers a feminine, romantic style, classic models of semi-adjacent silhouette. Everything here is modern and most importantly - affordable. And here's what I tell you: if a woman knows how to sew, she will always be able to emphasize her personality.

And which of the 1987 models still seems relevant to you?

The jacket model that we see on the cover of the first issue will always be in fashion. Jacket in a classic style, with an expanded shoulder girdle, with an emphasized waistline. The goose-foot fabric itself is also very popular. Such a thing in the wardrobe gives a woman with a good taste. The highlight of the set is added by a graphic narrow skirt. This outfit is timeless. I would suggest wearing it with a white blouse, complementing a neckerchief. For sewing a jacket it is better to use a jacquard or light tweed - it is easier to work with them. Further, it all depends on the imagination: you can add braid or contrast piping to trim the collar. For example, I attach great importance to fittings. All Burda readers would like to wish: look for something original and don't be afraid to try it - let it be a little grotesque. Ordinary boring, try to be interesting!

Fashion Designer Tip

The design of the jacket is easy to modernize by replacing patch pockets with flap pockets.
In the collections of Vyacheslav Zaitsev, classic models and the familiar goose foot pattern get a new sound.
