Shorts that for some reason are not worn can be turned into a skirt with your own hands.

In this way, you can make a skirt from denim shorts or from any other. The fabric for the wedges can be selected contrasting, as in this example, or close to the fabric of the shorts themselves. Depending on the width of the shorts and your desire, you can add wedges only in front and behind or also on the sides.

Step 1

First you need to expand the hem line of the bottom. If your shorts are long enough and your skirt is supposed to be shorter, you can simply cut off the hem. Here the line was spread and the bottom of the legs was ironed.

Step 2

Now we unzip the side and step seams. If you want to insert wedges only in front and behind, we leave side seams. Then you need to slightly expand the front and rear middle seams - until the moment where the seams become straight.

Step 3

If you insert wedges on the sides, fasten the stitches of the side seams as shown in the photo.

Step 4

Turn the shorts inside out. Fold them so that the rear mid-cuts match. Draw a straight line as shown in the photo.Trim along the line. Repeat for front middle slices. Fasten the seams as in step 3.

Step 5

Turn out the shorts and lay them on a flat surface, spread out all the panels. It is necessary to measure the width and length of future wedges, front, rear and side. The front and rear wedges can be slightly different in size, the side ones are the same.

Step 6

Add allowances (at least 1 cm on each side) and cut wedges.

Step 7

Work on the overlock or zigzag the long edges of the wedges and the cut edges of the legs.

Step 8

Turn the edges of the front and rear middle seams inwards by 1 cm and secure with an iron.

Attach the wedges, aligning the edges, and pin them with pins.

Turn the future skirt on your face and make sure that the wedges are even and that the seam is not peeling. Move the pins, removing them from the inside and pinning them from the face. Especially check the location of the upper corners of the wedges.

Step 9

Sew the wedges starting at the top of each line.

Step 10

Trim the bottom edge of the skirt. Fold the hem and hem twice. Done.
